It started with computers and now, for the first time, individuals can own the means of production for physical products: CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters. Fabrication tools that were once locked inside factories are now sitting in garages, workshops, basements, and homes. A desktop 3D printer costs a few hundred dollars. A capable CNC mill fits on a workbench.
For most of human history, we lived in small groups. There were no tools to hold a larger group together: no writing, no roads, no clocks, no way to send a message faster than a horse. Centralization wasn’t possible because the infrastructure for it didn’t exist yet.
The original architecture was distributed by design. No center. No single point of failure. Built to survive a nuclear strike by routing around damage. It worked because no node mattered more than the network.
The narrative is consistent: ICP as sovereign compute infrastructure. Not just an alternative to AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, but a serious upgrade. On ICP, computation and data live in the same canister. No latency between processing and storage. No fragmented architecture. No third-party database exposed to subpoenas. That’s not feature parity with big cloud, but a fundamentally better design.
Every 80 years, America breaks and rebuilds itself. After the Revolution, after the Civil War, after World War II. Each time, the old structure collapses under its own weight and something new takes over. We're in that moment now.
